Serving with Love: EFC’s Monthly Soup Kitchen Outreach
Every second Wednesday of the month, a faithful team from Evangelical Friends Church Newport gathers in downtown Newport to serve at the soup kitchen hosted at First Presbyterian Church, located at 4 Evert Street. From 5 to 6 PM, the doors open to provide not only a hot, nutritious meal but also a place of warmth, dignity, and care for those in need.
Each month, we serve between 30 to 50 guests, offering homemade meals and friendly faces to those who walk through the doors. This ministry has been a consistent presence in the community thanks to the incredible leadership of Emily Lyons, who has dedicated nearly ten years to organizing and overseeing the effort. Her heart for outreach, paired with the dedication of EFC members and partners like the Middletown Marshals, has made this a vital and life-giving service in our city.
More than just food, the soup kitchen is about connection. It’s a place where hands are extended in kindness, conversations are shared over meals, and the love of Jesus Christ is made tangible in simple but profound ways.
We are deeply grateful to every volunteer, donor, and prayer warrior who helps make this ministry possible each month.
